Most of us are aware of the line in the Declaration that states “All Men are Created Equal”. Yep, we are all equipped with a heart, a brain, eyes, and all the other basic parts. The big thing that makes us different is not a physical attribute, it is status, money, call it what you will that is what makes us different. It was in the time of Washington and Jefferson, and it does today.
Why does it matter so much? With money you are capable of leveraging power and a place at the head table. If you look you see it everywhere, the people that get seated in a restaurant when it is crowded, the people that sit in the front row at church. These are the ones that have money, and they make sure others know it and expect everyone to concede to their wishes.
So, politics is no different if you don’t have money or at least access to people that will provide money you cannot get elected. Those that provide usually have strings attached, even people with money themselves usually have some agenda they hope to impose because they are running things. Recently we have been told that corporations are people too so when they put money on a certain pony, they expect to get the ride they paid for.
Let’s take the money out of the equation and look at the people that have either been elected or at least run for office. If you listen to some of the speeches that these people make you can easily remember people that you have known in your life that were and are a lot smarter. So why is the smart one not running, money.
As for the corporation nonsense, let’s make it mandatory that the corporation only gets one vote. So look to see who is the CEO, all listed on the Board of Directors, and all of the ones known to be in upper management and all those individuals will have that one vote. Another way to clear the deck on this issue is to take all listed voters to a blood drive, and if you do not at least try to give blood you have no vote. That should take care of the corporation votes. Now we just need to get their money out of the picture.
If money is the only difference that makes smart people stay out of the race and stupid or limited people enter, we need to find a way to put the smart ones, the ones that know how to work with others, and the ones that make decisions based on the best for the most. We have tests and quizzes for everything else. Why not that?
Money being the reason or catalyst for all sorts of things. Saving some for the future, investing some to help with kids’ college, or whatever. Now we do have some that are interested in money for the sake of money, it is an aphrodisiac, a stimulant or it is just your ultimate goal.
We know that documents were taken that constrained secrets and that sort of thing is worth a lot of money. We know that we had a significant number of undercover people die after a list of those people was requested. It is sad that one man’s rise to power and now fall to despair has put our nation at risk because of his fixation on money.
If you believe he is alone then consider that one man is trying to buy the Supreme Court and he has managed to get one or possibly two justices so far. We have organizations that have used membership funds for personal gain. At every turn there is someone that has a hand out or in someone else’s pocket. Trust is also a commodity and it should not be for sale, it should be earned and cherished well beyond any monetary worth. Honesty is the thing that allows you to keep your head up and not be afraid to answer questions. We are all capable of being honest and trustworthy unfortunately many choose not to be for the sake of riches. If there is any truth to Scrooge then some are carrying very heavy chains.
