Dwain Northey (Gen X)

Here we go again, mass shooting in Maine and what will we get, ‘Thoughts and Prayers’.
The worst part of this is the shooter is still at large, is well trained by our tax dollars and has openly admitted to metal illness and the desire to do what he just did.
We are appalled by the atrocities in Israel and Gaza, but we daily have people in our own back yards gunned down and still we can’t seem to do anything about it. The 2nd Amendment is to many an unbreachable freedom that as Americans have the God given right to have a gun. Fine have a gun but not a weapon of war, not a firearm that has no other intended purpose than to kill people in quantity and efficiently. No one need this type of weapon outside a theater of war… NO ONE!
Next, we will be told it isn’t the gun, it is a mental health issue. Guess what the United States isn’t the only nation on earth with mental health problems we are the only one with ready access to firearms. I say to every person that says it’s a metal health problem, “Then why don’t we fund mental health, and why is it untenable to think that if someone has metal health problems they should not be in the possession of a firearm?” Strange that I can never get a good answer to that. But the Trumpublicans want to jail Hunter Biden because he lied about a drug addiction and possessed a firearm for 18 days, a firearm by the way that was not used in the advent of any crime.
Former VP Pence says that the death penalty should be a consequence for shooters, not acknowledging that nearly all shooters in these events either kill themselves or are shot by police. These murderers go on these rampages knowing that their lives are more than likely over, so the treat of the death penalty is redundant.
The 2nd Amendment is not absolute, and we need to stop acting like it is. The Constitution states that we have the right to Life, Liberty, and Happiness. I say those rights preempt the right to have a weapon that can end my or anyone else’s right to Life, Liberty, and Happiness.
I know this isn’t going to change, we have a member in the House of Representatives, Steve Scalese, that was shot at a congressional softball game, and he still touts the right to have a gun. He also doesn’t like to acknowledge that a black lesbian police officer saved his life, but that’s another rant.
