https://www.cbsnews.com/news/naacp-travel-advisory-florida-says-state-hostile-to-black-americans/

Remember the good old days when there were only travel advisories and or ban for, what some would call, third word countries? Well now because of the vile vitriol of one Governor Ron DeSantis the state of Florida, a vacation destination, has received a travel advisory by the NAACP.

The wannabe future President has made the climate so venomous in Florida the anyone who is a part of any minority group does not feel safe in the state. Black, Brown, LGTBQ+, these are all groups that are under attack in the Sunshine State. The majority Republican legislature and their fearful leader has passed laws that make almost everything a jailable offence and the fact that the state has very loose gun laws and a stand your ground law makes it more dangerous than being a blonde female in central America.

Florida residents are able to carry concealed guns without a permit under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. The law, which goes into effect on July 1, means that anyone who can legally own a gun in Florida can carry a concealed gun in public without any training or background check. This with their ridiculous stand your ground law, ‘Florida’s “Stand-Your-Ground” law was passed in 2005. The law allows those who feel a reasonable threat of death or bodily injury to “meet force with force” rather than retreat. Similar “Castle Doctrine” laws assert that a person does not need to retreat if their home is attacked.’ Makes it really sketchy to go there.

This in top of the don’t say gay rule and the new trans ruling that just passed.

“Florida lawmakers have no shame. This discriminatory bill is extraordinarily desperate and extreme in a year full of extreme, discriminatory legislation. It is a cruel effort to stigmatize, marginalize and erase the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender youth. Let me be clear: gender-affirming care saves lives. Every mainstream American medical and mental health organization – representing millions of providers in the United States – call for age-appropriate, gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary people.

“These politicians have no place inserting themselves in conversations between doctors, parents, and transgender youth about gender-affirming care. And at the same time that Florida lawmakers crow about protecting parental rights they make an extra-constitutional attempt to strip parents of – you guessed it! – their parental rights. The Human Rights Campaign strongly condemns this bill and will continue to fight for LGBTQ+ youth and their families who deserve better from their elected leaders.”

This law makes it possible for anyone to just accuse someone of gender affirming care to have their child taken from them this would include someone traveling from out of state. This alone justifies a travel ban to the Magic Kingdom for families.

Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned DeSantis holy war with Disney, the largest employer in the state. I really hope the Mouse eats this ass holes lunch.

Well that’s enough bitching, thanks again for suffering though my rant.

  • Over Estimating

    Dwain Northey (Gen X)

We are under estimating human nature, or political and judicial system is founded on the assumption that those in positions of power will do what is best and lawful with personal biases. Jurist are supposed to apply the law based on evidence and to the letter and interpretation of said law, the Supreme Court Justices are to apply law on interpretation of the Constitution not their personal beliefs. Well it appears more apparent that many of those appointed to the highest court in the country what to twist the words of the founders into their personal ideology. Separation of church and state, for some, have been omitted from what our founders believed. What is more devastating is that this patriarchal puritan interpretation what’s to remove rights from women and those who don’t fall under their limited world view.

The Supreme Court needs to be expanded, it is not court packing, that is what Mitch McConnell has successfully accomplished, expanding to court to 13 justices would just even out the map since there are 13 appellate courts.

The electoral college needs to be abolished it gives states with very small populations greater power than states with larger populations. It is a sad state of affairs when states that only hold 30% of the national population control 60% of the political power and can make laws that oppress the remaining 70% of the people in the country.

Please read the 2025 project that is the GOP blueprint to roll back our country to nearly pre civil war ideology and if not just try to mirror the regimes of Russia? Turkey, and China with a strong man leader that controls everything and never has to leave office. Not the country I served for or the one my father served for… let’s stop over estimating that everyone will always do the right thing.

  • How will Fox spin this?

    Dwain Northey (Gen X)

Fox and the Trump acolytes have been having an absolute meltdown after dear leaders 34 felony convictions, screaming rigged court, rigged jury, political hit job, you name it and Donald quite literally committed the crimes he was charged with. Today Hunter Biden was found guilty on all counts in a Delaware court for crimes that the republican gun culture would never allow unless the person was named Biden, Obama.or Clinton. Will this even be mentioned by Fox or will they, as they always do, inflate the charges to the level of a violent crime and say Hunter should spend the rest of his life in prison.

Let’s compare the crimes , 34 counts of business fraud connected to paying off a porn star in order to lie to the public to obtain the highest elected office in America, 4 counts of lying on a firearm application after leaving a rehab facility for drug addiction and returning the firearm after 11 days and not using said firearm in relation to a crime. Donald has been in the middle of financial misconduct his entire adult life and only because he had the audacity to run and win the presidency did those crimes ever come to light.

Everyone cries about a fixed or rigged justice system and I honestly believe that if Trump had not won in 2016 and Hillary had one and Joe Biden had never run in 2020 or become president, Hunter Biden’s history would never have been taken to criminal court. So it is true that our justice system is rigged, but it has been rigged by the GOP for the past countless years by packing courts to make sure that their crimes go unnoticed.

If Hunter gets jail time and Donald gets a slap on the wrist then we can admit that there are 2 different justices systems in America.

  • Art repeating history

apoleon Bonaparte is revered as one of the greatest military commanders of all time, but even he was helpless against the most fearsome foe of all: fluffy little bunnies. In one of history’s most shocking upsets, the emperor of the French was attacked — and defeated — by a horde of rabbits. The coup took place in July of 1807 as Napoleon and his coterie celebrated the Treaties of Tilsit, which brought a victorious end to the war between France and Russia, with a traditional rabbit hunt. Louis-Alexandre Berthier, Napoleon’s chief of staff, arranged the festivities with anywhere from a few hundred to 3,000 rabbits and expected them to behave as normal when they were uncaged on a field. Rather than run away, however, the bunnies began swarming Napoleon and his men. Though amusing at first, the situation quickly overwhelmed some of Europe’s foremost military strategists.

Reader, it was chaos. According toGeneral Paul Charles François Adrien Henri Dieudonné Thiébault, “the intrepid rabbits turned the Emperor’s flank, attacked him frantically in the rear, refused to quit their hold, piled themselves up between his legs till they made him stagger, and forced the conqueror of conquerors, fairly exhausted, to retreat and leave them in possession of the field.” Having ceded this crucial territory, Napoleon retreated to his coach and thought the bunnies would show mercy. They did not. With what historian David Chandler has described as “a finer understanding of Napoleonic strategy than most of his generals,” they continued their siege until the coach fled the scene. The reason for the creatures’ aggression? Berthier bought tame rabbits from a farmer rather than trap wild ones and, because they hadn’t been fed that day, the hungry bunnies swarmed the men they assumed were there to feed them.

  • Delusional

    Dwain Northey (Gen X)

Throughout history there have been mass hysteria events, from Salem Witch Trials to the majority of the German population burring their collective heads in the sand as their leaders lead them into a Second World War less than two decades after the Great War. It seems that we are in that insanely dangerous period again. There is a large number of people who can’t see or just refuse to admit that the path their messiah what lead them down is counterintuitive to the values that claim to represent.

I had an honest question to a ‘ Christian’ pastor that was going to a Trump rally to how they could follow the obvious non Christian in Donald. Their serious although confusing response was the ‘Jesus has forgiven Trump for his past actions’ that wasn’t the end of their thought they ended with ‘God can never forgive Biden…’ I did not know how to respond without starting an argument that would never end. Another young person said that they supported Trump because they planned on one day being rich, Still don’t understand that connection.

All I am asking is don’t turn a blind eye to the direction the ‘conservatives’ what to take us down. Many of them only believe that only their freedoms are valued, if they disagree with other position is their right but not your right to oppose their opinion. I am sorry but in the history of humanity that has never worked for long.

Our country was founded on everybody having rights. Granted in the beginning, that’s not the way it worked not everybody was equal, but we have tried. Been trying to rectify that situation. Unfortunately today’s Republican party want to take us back to a time when only white landowners had rights women did not have rights minorities said have not have rights, only those that held land or had white skin possessed those rights. We cannot go back to the 16th 17th and early 18th centuries that is not a forward movement that is definitely taking us back to it. We have I am hoping have moved away from.

  • Poor Judgement

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

What is going on in the heads of male GOP congressional leaders at all levels to ban birth control pills. These are not abortion drugs and they serve the purpose of allowing for sex, that even these idiots enjoy, and stopping the possible production of more idiots like DJT. If ever there was a poster child for abortion it has to be him.
Then we have Judge Cannon allowing Trump all kinds of leeway in the case she is overseeing. It is more like putting the prosecutor on trial for doing his job and Donald to get a walk. Same kind of thing in Georgia with more of the idiocy of a republican judge doing all that he can to tip the scales to clear Trump.
The question has to be when do we get to put these sudo officials on trial? Justices that take bribes, Judges that kiss ass and constantly find a way to serve one man rather than the nation. It is way past time to clean the house.
Now it turns out that Trump is banned from traveling to 37 countries. The countries that have banned him are the ones we have called allies for a long time. This event will not phase Trump as he would much rather travel to the countries that will let him in, the ones we have known as enemies for decades.
Another issue that is getting a lot of attention is this nonsense about Confederate names on schools and military posts, etc. Our history is our history and like it or not that is the way is went. We cannot deny that slavery happened, we cannot deny the trail of tears or the interment of US citizens of Japanese descent. The Holocaust happened as did so many other really ugly things in history and the changing of a name will neither make it go away or honor the event.
Every time you look around there is another week or month that is honoring some special group or event and most of us accept it and move on. We are sure to have someone that doesn’t like something but the reason is probably not because of anything to do with the event, it is because that person’s underwear is too tight. Why does that matter? Because it is choking him to death because he has his head up his ass.
The celebration of Columbus day upsets the Viking crowd. It should upset the Native American crowd because they suffered from the discovery of the New World. Every incident in history has at least 2 sides and your viewpoint is based on which side you stand on. The name of a school is not that important in the grander scheme of things, come back to earth, get over your nose bleed and get on with your life.

  • Back when we honored intelligence.

The Olympics used to have medals for painting and literature.

    ARTS & CULTURE

At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, the perfect brushstroke was just as likely to win a medal as the quickest sprint. That year, Pierre de Coubertin — co-founder of the International Olympic Committee — introduced a series of Olympic events in the fields of painting, literature, music, architecture, and sculpture, with the rule that all creations must be sports-themed. Though many of the newly eligible competitors lacked the physical prowess of traditional Olympians, some excelled at both the athletic and the artistic. American marksman Walter Winans not only won a silver medal for sharpshooting at the 1912 Games, but he also took home gold for his 20-inch-tall sculpture of a horse-drawn chariot, titled “An American Trotter.”

In future Olympiads, the artistic events focused on even more niche disciplines. By the 1928 Amsterdam Games, architecture was subcategorized into design and town planning, while literature was divided into lyrical, dramatic, and epic works. After a hiatus during World War II, the arts returned as official Olympic events one final time at the 1948 London Games. It was there that 73-year-old John Copley won a silver medal for his engraving titled “Polo Players,” becoming the oldest Olympic medalist in history. Unfortunately for these more right-brained Olympians, new IOC president Avery Brundage led a campaign to remove the creative events from the official Olympic program, relegating the arts to exhibition status by the 1952 Games. All 151 artistic Olympic medals that had been awarded between 1912 and 1948 were stricken from the official record books.

  • Ok…. What?

I guess I’ve answered this prompt in the past, but I would say currently my tagline would be OK, What? Because I have a tendency to agree to something without actually listening to the initial question.

My alternate tag line would be, ‘well that didn’t go as planned ‘.

  • ****WHAT?****

What are the most important things needed to live a good life?

OMG if I could definitively answer that question I would write a book and make millions. This question absolutely cannot be answered and have that answer fit every person everywhere. All I can say is good luck wrestling with this query.

The letter “J” wasn’t added to the alphabet until after Shakespeare.

    ARTS & CULTURE

It wasn’t until after the life of William Shakespeare (1564-1616) that the modern English alphabet welcomed “J” as its 26th and final letter. In fact, first-edition copies of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from 1597 were titled Romeo and Iuliet, as the letter “I” was often used as a written substitute for words with a “J” sound in English. In order to fully understand the letter’s origins, however, we need to go all the way back to ancient Roman times.

In Roman numerals, a swash was sometimes used to denote the end of sequences — for instance, the number 13 often visually appeared in handwritten text as “XIIJ” instead of “XIII.” In classical Latin and in various European languages through the medieval era, the letter “I” was used as both a vowel and as a consonant, and the constant version of “I” morphed over the years and eventually began appearing as a “J” shape. In the late 15th century and early 16th century, a few scholars wrote treatises on grammar in which they suggested using “J” as the constant version of “I.”  In English, this change took hold in the early 17th century. A good illustration of this is the King James Bible, one of the first modern English texts to print “J” as a unique letter. The 1611 edition uses the consonant “I” in words such as “Iesus” and “Ioseph,” while the 1629 edition uses the letter “J,” paving the way for the eventual widespread inclusion of “J” in the English alphabet.
