https://www.cbsnews.com/news/naacp-travel-advisory-florida-says-state-hostile-to-black-americans/
Remember the good old days when there were only travel advisories and or ban for, what some would call, third word countries? Well now because of the vile vitriol of one Governor Ron DeSantis the state of Florida, a vacation destination, has received a travel advisory by the NAACP.
The wannabe future President has made the climate so venomous in Florida the anyone who is a part of any minority group does not feel safe in the state. Black, Brown, LGTBQ+, these are all groups that are under attack in the Sunshine State. The majority Republican legislature and their fearful leader has passed laws that make almost everything a jailable offence and the fact that the state has very loose gun laws and a stand your ground law makes it more dangerous than being a blonde female in central America.
Florida residents are able to carry concealed guns without a permit under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. The law, which goes into effect on July 1, means that anyone who can legally own a gun in Florida can carry a concealed gun in public without any training or background check. This with their ridiculous stand your ground law, ‘Florida’s “Stand-Your-Ground” law was passed in 2005. The law allows those who feel a reasonable threat of death or bodily injury to “meet force with force” rather than retreat. Similar “Castle Doctrine” laws assert that a person does not need to retreat if their home is attacked.’ Makes it really sketchy to go there.
This in top of the don’t say gay rule and the new trans ruling that just passed.
“Florida lawmakers have no shame. This discriminatory bill is extraordinarily desperate and extreme in a year full of extreme, discriminatory legislation. It is a cruel effort to stigmatize, marginalize and erase the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender youth. Let me be clear: gender-affirming care saves lives. Every mainstream American medical and mental health organization – representing millions of providers in the United States – call for age-appropriate, gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary people.
“These politicians have no place inserting themselves in conversations between doctors, parents, and transgender youth about gender-affirming care. And at the same time that Florida lawmakers crow about protecting parental rights they make an extra-constitutional attempt to strip parents of – you guessed it! – their parental rights. The Human Rights Campaign strongly condemns this bill and will continue to fight for LGBTQ+ youth and their families who deserve better from their elected leaders.”
This law makes it possible for anyone to just accuse someone of gender affirming care to have their child taken from them this would include someone traveling from out of state. This alone justifies a travel ban to the Magic Kingdom for families.
Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned DeSantis holy war with Disney, the largest employer in the state. I really hope the Mouse eats this ass holes lunch.
Well that’s enough bitching, thanks again for suffering though my rant.

Hypocritical Name Calling
Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

Thinking back over the last turbulent years certain things keep popping up with the politics of the want to be king. He has made statements and accusations about people especially those that are not falling all over the place to please Trump.
He accused his competition of being pedifiles and human traffickers and all sorts of other things. Experience tells me that the more things you accuse others of are generally the things you are guilty of, who was pals with Epstein?
All the berating, name calling and just slanderous talk should sicken the average person, or at least rethink their opinion of the person making all the remarks. Then the question is who is propping him up in all this? Well, all the people buying his trash, the $60 bibles with his name on them, tennis shoes, coins and $100,000 watches. Then there are the very rich that are hoping they will get richer by him being in office.
With the program that is being planned this could be a very slim hope. Are all these people going to lose their voices and do as they are told by Dictator Trump? His ego tells him he should be the richest person, the most powerful person, and the most loved person, so does anyone truly believe that he is going to let anyone have more than he does. As a dictator he can take whatever he feels like taking, in theory anyway, and get away with it. The rich won’t be quite so rich and all the power will be in his hands. Keep dreaming and scheming and watch your backs.
His hope to use the military for control of the populace has big holes in it. He does not have the support of the top ranking military and without that he has nothing. The MAGA mob does not stand a chance of winning over those forces. In order to take over the government you need to have lots of help in a lot of places and control of all key elements. Offices full of yes men may be very gratifying but not controlling the military will cost your plans significantly. Even with the fact that the senior officers are going to be picked by him it is hard to believe that we have that many traitors in the senior ranks.
The laws that have allowed for the arming of the public means that many people now have guns that did not before. The fracturing of society by the Trump tactic of pitting us against one another is not likely to pay dividends for control. It may be war in the streets and neighbor killing neighbor. How did we get to this point? Are we all so bone headed that we will fight among ourselves or will we unite and kill the cancer that has caused the sickness? That solution is probably the only solution that moves us forward.
Either way it goes, many will not see it through. What will life be like on the other end of the carnage? We will still have a country or will some other power move against us during our time of terminal stupidity? Lots of questions, what are your answers? -
Trumponomics
Dwain Northey (Gen X)

Can’t believe that this is still a topic up for debate… too many people are still in the delusion that ‘45’ DJT had a positive impact on the economy and will somehow magically fix an economy that is doing better than any other countries economy on the planet.
They all ignore that STOCK Markets are up, unemployment is at record lows, Manufacturing is having a boom, more people have health insurance, wages have increased exceeding inflation, the list could go on but evidently those indicators are inconsequential because in 2019 the price of eggs and bacon were lower, not to mention that in 2020 {when the country was shut down} gas prices were under $2.00 a gallon. While it is true that price on some things have gone up the small fact that government, Joe’s or Donalds, has zero control over the price of egg or other good controlled by our FREE MARKET system.
Donald believes that he can miraculously lower consumer prices and he will do this by again lowering the corporate tax rate from 24% to 15%. Yeah, that should do it, we all know that Trickle Down Economics has done wonders since Reagan started it on the 1980’s.
Trumponomics Plan
Lower Corporate Taxes (again)
Huge Tariffs on Imports
Deport Anyone that is brown or does not pledge loyalty to him
Dissolve the Department of Education
Really any agency that doesn’t want to fall in line
If you want to know how Trumps plan would work do an internet search of Hungry, Russia, any country under authoritarian rule, research how Cuba prospered in under Castro.
If he gets in office and has his way his Tariffs plan will absolutely raise because the country of origin does not pay the tariff, the corporation buying the product pays it and that entity will 100% pass that cost on to consumers. Greedflation won’t end it will only get worse.
We have 3 weeks to make sure that the United States of America continues to move forward as a Constitutional Democracy, please get the facts let’s not slide into Authoritarian Rule.

Democracy is Messy but it the best system we have.
Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

The stories of indoctrination of youth and how the educational system is filled with “woke” instructors is just a lot of chaff thrown out to cover the real issues. The idea that the answer to all our problems can be answered by following the lead of one party line of ideas and having a completely corrupted screwed up person in charge of that is ridiculous. The answers we need will take careful thought and cooperation of many ideas and ideologies because the problems the world really needs to fix are not just ours.
Turning back the clock and burying our heads in the sand are not answers. The idea that the subjugation of women is going to improve anything is as ridiculous as believing that the moon is made of cheese. If the bible teaches anything it should be that treating others as you wish to be treated and showing kindness are most important.
We will not move forward or improve our position by kicking others in the face, by acting superior by virtue of a skin color, or saying we can get away with being obnoxious because we are from a particular place. Every person, every culture, and every ideology has worth, and we can all learn from each other — it is necessary for our and the planet’s survival.
The path that leads to improvement is not going to be reached by listening to doom and gloom merchants. Telling us that the way to improve is to go back to bathing once a week whether you need it or not, or making decisions based on which half of the oreo cookie the frosting is stuck to. Reason and logic, getting the entire picture and then making decisions based on the results providing the best result for the largest portion of us should be our goal.
Our Congress needs to start doing business on a partisan basis, not on a “we are doing nothing cause Trump told us to” basis. Trump will become a footnote in history as a traitor and a felon, and the sooner the designation is given the better. His negative influence has degraded our country and us the citizens for long enough, time to move on.
We need to revamp the courts to make them more democratic, rather than a group of royal ass holes that make decisions in the vacuum of their own minds and expect the rest of us to live by those decisions. Most of their recent decisions prove they are only interested in serving the people that are greasing their palms with “tips”. We can’t call it bribery because the money or gift was not presented until after the favor was given, a gratuity or tip.
When state elections occur and ballot issues that have been negative decisions by the court system are on that ballot, would you not think that the decision you made was the wrong one? It gave a minority tipper what was asked for so, of course, it was not wrong, but oh well, that is the way it goes.
We need referendums on all decisions at all levels and any time that does not happen it should immediately cause a special election to occur. Just so that the person behind the decision knows that this was a poor move, include the possibility of removal from office as one of the consequences of the election. If the same person makes three bad calls then he is gone anyway without benefits of any kind. Most of us don’t get paid to screw up, why should a judge or Congress member? -
Wannabe Dictator
Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

In an interview Trump stated that it might be necessary to handle the dissenters from the radical left. He had already said that anyone that had contributed to the Harris campaign was going to be subjected to a long prison sentence.
It absolutely baffles me as to how he thinks he is going to get the military to follow those kinds of orders. Most of the top brass has already said he should not be elected and that he is a danger to the nation. On top of that is the business of following unlawful orders, which any order to attack citizens would be illegal.
With the nation divided the way it is, many families have people on opposing sides of this issue and some members are in the military. The first Civil War pitted brother against brother. I am not sure that this issue and protecting or elevating a wantabe dictator is going to have the same result, hopefully not.
Now we are hearing that Trump wants a military escort for his campaigning since there have been three attempts on his life. Since the supermarket episode and the coffee shop deal were staged do we believe these are real. The first one may have been real, the second has some issues. A sniper wearing a pink shirt, walking away from his hide leaving everything behind and the last one got nowhere near and the law officer is suspect as well, making up another story for attention. No publicity is bad publicity.
One possible reason for this request is to possibly identify a group of soldiers that will follow Trump without question. If the request is honored the squad should be made up of soldiers that are among his favorite target group. Let him piss off his security detail or learn to watch his mouth. He already has Secret Service and that should be enough, he can always withdraw from the election and go hide at a golf course.
Trump has something ??? touch his ear and it is the biggest deal going. Teddy R was shot in the gut and talked for over an hour without letting on that he was injured. Teddy also saved YellowStone as a national monument, Trump wants to destroy it for mineral wealth.
That is another thing to look forward to, the mantra of “drill baby drill “ which will make certain people happy but will ultimately destroy our country. Trump is old so he won’t notice if the land is messed up as he will not be here for long anyway.
The military has a job to do and looking after the person trying to get into the White House isn’t one of them. If he is that scared stay hom -

Yuck

Candy corn was originally called “Chicken Feed.”
Candy corn may be the most maligned confectionary — it’s rare that the tricolored treat ever tops the list of beloved Halloween candies. Yet somehow it returns with flair each fall, an unyielding symbol of the season. While the waxy, triangular kernels have essentially remained the same since their creation in the 1880s, one thing has changed about candy corn: its name. In its earliest years, candy corn was called “Chicken Feed,” a catchy name appealing to rural Americans during a time when nearly half the country’s population worked on farms.
Not much is known about candy corn’s origin, though credit for its creation often goes to the Wunderle Candy Company, a Philadelphia venture that first produced the candy during the 1880s. However, another manufacturer — the Goelitz Confectionary Company, which would grow into the modern Jelly Belly Candy Company — further popularized the treat around 1898, designing packaging featuring a rooster and the tagline “Something worth crowing for.” By then, the treat was called “candy corn.” At a time when most real corn was planted for animal feed, candy corn was a novelty play on the idea that corn could actually be enjoyable for humans.
Making the miniature kernels was a time- and labor-intensive processdone entirely by hand. Workers called “runners” walked backward along a conveyor belt packed with cornstarch molds, lugging buckets filled with a hot, sugary slurry that slowly dripped out through a hole. Each pass contributed one of the candy’s iconic yellow, orange, and white layers, which cooled into shape. Today, the process is nearly entirely mechanized and much faster, allowing candy corn factories to produce about 9 billion of the kernels each fall, just in time for seasonal snacking.

Call it what it is…
Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

The constant lies are getting to the point that they will cause harm to someone. When that happens will the teller of the lie get off with no more than a warning. Guess it matters who tells the lie. If it were to be any democrat that tells a lie we would anticipate that the liar would be fined and jailed, if it is one of the Trumper crowd they will be let off with more locker room talk nonsense.
The media outlets that bemoan the poor coverage of things done by the republican party or members thereof does not come out and say that the media is biased because of who the owner supports. It is possible that would get you in trouble, but we are supposed to have a free and open press.
One day very soon things should get interesting as so many of the wealthy pushers of Donney dumb ass will be leaving this world. Maybe they have found a way to take the media outlets with them so they can screw up the next world they stop on. The brokers of malcontent all need to wake up and realize that the changes they are attempting to make are not going to make their lives better, shorter perhaps but not better.
The I wanna be king thinks that if he takes power again that he will have the military available to do his bidding because he will be Commander and Chief. The members of the military took an oath to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States. The articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice tells service members that they do not have to obey illegal orders, and any order to take up arms against other citizens that are not threatening them would be ignored.
Project 2025 may think they are going to replace a huge number of civil servants, but that may prove to be more of a challenge than they think. If they believe they will walk in, log on and take control they may be in for a big surprise.
Are there reasons to be dissatisfied with our government? Yes and that is normal as we can’t please everyone, however, the changes that need to be made need to start with getting rid of the obstructionists. The elected and appointed members that will not accept any view but their own. They block any effort to improve things if they feel there is political ammunition that can be used to gain an advantage for their party. When we need to be looking for the compromise that helps the majority these kinds of childish actions need to stop.
In order to have a successful government we need to have more than one view of all issues but the views need to be tempered with the ability to fix problems with the results benefitting the largest portion of our citizens. The name calling and constant calls for investigation of opponents is a waste of time and effort. The houses of Congress should not be treated like grade school and the bully taking someone’s lunch. To the members of Congress we ask “Are you adults now”? If so then act like reasonable conscientious people that have been elected to do your best work in support of our nation and the citizens therein. -
Interesting

The moon can produce a lunar rainbow known as a “moonbow.”
The sun is the most reliable way to create the gorgeous light display we call a rainbow, but it’s not the onlyway. After all, the moon illuminates the Earth, too — and rainbows are essentially an optical illusion caused when water droplets split light into its ROY G. BIV components. But seeing a “moonbow” isn’t exactly easy.
How rare is this nighttime meteorological phenomenon? Well, Aristotle wrote around 350 BCE in his treatise Meteorologica that “it was formerly thought that [rainbows] never appeared by night as a moon rainbow. This opinion was due to the rarity of the occurrence… we have only met with two instances of a moon rainbow in more than fifty years.” So, pretty rare. That’s because for a moonbow to form, you need a variety of conditions to be Goldilocks-level perfect. First, the moon must be low in the sky, and can’t exceed 42 degrees from the horizon. The moon must be full or near full, and you can’t be hanging around any artificial light — sorry, no moonbows in cities. Finally, just like rainbows, moonbows need water droplets in the atmosphere, so waterfalls are often a good spot to go hunting for moonbows. Just don’t expect to see the dazzling array of color typical of a daytime rainbow. Because the moon isn’t as bright as the sun, less light is refracted, and a moonbow usually looks white (at least to human eyes). But if you have a camera handy, long exposure photos will reveal a moonbow in all its colorful glory.

Let’s honor ‘We the People’
Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

The election is getting very near and with it we have the rumor mill going like crazy. One hour the polls show one thing and the next hour everything is turned around. We will not know until the tally from the electoral college has been counted. That system is just a waste as it does not reflect the popular vote, and that is proven because every time a republican makes it into office they have lost the popular vote. Our biggest concern in that regard is that Trump will get elected not by the people but by the bidders in the back of the room.
We hope that Harris is the winner on all fronts with a majority in both houses. Provided that happens we need to clean the dead wood out of the legal system by firing some and putting others in jail. After that we need to change the laws to better represent the people, not the money that comes not from the swamp but rather from a cesspool.
For many that are currently in Congress the title of corrupt is far more telling than any name that is connected to redemption. So many of our current crop of representatives have shown themselves to be less than honorable.
The various duties of the different parts of our government are described in the Constitution. The Supreme Court and lower courts are allowed to retain their seats during good Behavior, it does not state for life. The Justices are recommended by the President and confirmed by the Senate and once in place are literally demigods. They make decisions that affect every person in the nation based on their personal interpretation of the law.
Many of the bills that are put forth to be considered by state legislators are put forward and they, the states, ask for signatures of citizens to say yes or no on these bills. The Supreme Court and Appellate Courts make no such effort, they decide with a few as three people and slam a law on the books. We claim the President is the most powerful person on earth and yet he has a limited time to serve and can be checked by the Senate or House on every move he makes. The Justices are allowed unfettered power to ram whatever twist of opinion they have on any issue down everyones neck without being checked.
Have we got this wrong? Do we need to have a referendum on any proposed law or change to any law that is proposed? Since these decisions affect everyone in the nation, it is logical to allow the citizens to have a voice in the enactment of laws. Will it slow the process? Yes and that may be a good thing because as it stands we seem to be getting the wishes of a very few made into laws that all have to live with or die by as the case may be.
If a referendum had been held Roe v Wade would still be in place, bump stocks would not be legal, and waterboarding would not have been allowed as an interrogation technique. It is well passed time to remove the privilege of the demigods and take them from their high seats back to the table of equality. -
