https://www.cbsnews.com/news/naacp-travel-advisory-florida-says-state-hostile-to-black-americans/

Remember the good old days when there were only travel advisories and or ban for, what some would call, third word countries? Well now because of the vile vitriol of one Governor Ron DeSantis the state of Florida, a vacation destination, has received a travel advisory by the NAACP.

The wannabe future President has made the climate so venomous in Florida the anyone who is a part of any minority group does not feel safe in the state. Black, Brown, LGTBQ+, these are all groups that are under attack in the Sunshine State. The majority Republican legislature and their fearful leader has passed laws that make almost everything a jailable offence and the fact that the state has very loose gun laws and a stand your ground law makes it more dangerous than being a blonde female in central America.

Florida residents are able to carry concealed guns without a permit under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. The law, which goes into effect on July 1, means that anyone who can legally own a gun in Florida can carry a concealed gun in public without any training or background check. This with their ridiculous stand your ground law, ‘Florida’s “Stand-Your-Ground” law was passed in 2005. The law allows those who feel a reasonable threat of death or bodily injury to “meet force with force” rather than retreat. Similar “Castle Doctrine” laws assert that a person does not need to retreat if their home is attacked.’ Makes it really sketchy to go there.

This in top of the don’t say gay rule and the new trans ruling that just passed.

“Florida lawmakers have no shame. This discriminatory bill is extraordinarily desperate and extreme in a year full of extreme, discriminatory legislation. It is a cruel effort to stigmatize, marginalize and erase the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender youth. Let me be clear: gender-affirming care saves lives. Every mainstream American medical and mental health organization – representing millions of providers in the United States – call for age-appropriate, gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary people.

“These politicians have no place inserting themselves in conversations between doctors, parents, and transgender youth about gender-affirming care. And at the same time that Florida lawmakers crow about protecting parental rights they make an extra-constitutional attempt to strip parents of – you guessed it! – their parental rights. The Human Rights Campaign strongly condemns this bill and will continue to fight for LGBTQ+ youth and their families who deserve better from their elected leaders.”

This law makes it possible for anyone to just accuse someone of gender affirming care to have their child taken from them this would include someone traveling from out of state. This alone justifies a travel ban to the Magic Kingdom for families.

Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned DeSantis holy war with Disney, the largest employer in the state. I really hope the Mouse eats this ass holes lunch.

Well that’s enough bitching, thanks again for suffering though my rant.

  • What a return of the Gilded Age…

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

    Money & Power for Some

A report said that Biden made a shocking “threat” against Trump. This is big news for no reason at all, but when the reverse is the case it is no big deal. Everyone knows that the truth and Trump don’t reside in the same room. He tells lies because his ego gives him permission to do so to make him feel better about him.
The fact that the news media is so quick to pick up the lies and spread them only proves that the owners of the media, who’s voice is to be heard, are just as corrupt and power hungry as Trump. The monied segment of society feels that anything that will give them more money in their pockets is the way to go. It is a damned shame that all that wealth does no good in the world as these over indulged, self important near do wells just sit in the safe like Scrooge McDuck in the cartoon and play with the money.
There does not seem to be a way to alter this problem since the laws of the land have been bastardized to assist rather than curtail this sort of behavior. Accountability in government must be reestablished. Who we elect at all levels needs to be focussed on representatives of character not hollow promises. The Supreme Court needs to be purged of the dead wood that currently resides in at least 6 of the seats. Laws like “Corporations are people too” need to be repealed. The big money pacs buying representatives needs to stop, and those that either attempt to buy and those that are tempted to sell need to be prosecuted. Treat these deals just like the law treats both parties involved in prostitution. It is the same thing.
When major laws have been set at the highest levels, one must question why states choose to follow another path or go counter to that order. Most of the time, at least recently, is the fact that the states making the biggest stink are the ones that opposed the results of the last Presidential election. By the time the people sitting in the state houses are elected you would think that their maturity had developed past the point of “I did not get my way so I will hold my breath till I turn blue” stage. Give me another reason if that is not it.
From the perspective of age it is time to bring representatives of youth into the business of government. They need to have abilities, not just a desire to get their name in the papers, and character to listen to, understand, and propose solutions to problems that solve those problems for the greater good. It is time to look beyond our narrow vision of what we know best and see what others have done to solve issues and if it works adopt those techniques.
Other societies have overcome problems that we seem to be unable to resolve. Homelessness, public safety, care for the elderly, noise, how to live with our neighbors in confined spaces, and so many more. These societies have built all sorts of projects and still have money in the bank, we have debt and belligerent opposing forces with a better idea and no sense of compromise.
We have a great system in Democracy and it has proven to be successful. The problems have arrived with the purposeful corruption to provide favor to one segment of society with total disregard for all others. It only works when we all prosper.

  • Horse Race BS

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

So now we have an idiot with an interview show that is saying that VP Harris is giving off Voodoo vibes like Obama did. This is complete and total nonsense to start with. He no doubt has a reason for this bizarre comment. It is another one of the possible excuses for why, in the upcoming election, Trump loses. It further supports the poor showing of other republican candidates because there was a spell cast on them.
The real reason they don’t do well has to do with the leader of the pack as much as anything. We need no more of Trump’s crap and the lower rank and file are all missing the boat on issues among other things. When you are either showing your stupidity by sucking up to the man or hiding in the shadows so that he doesn’t taint your name are the reasons that republicans are not doing well. The ones with the sucking fetish are all on the back slope and it will not take a lot to push them off into oblivion.
Another of these “men of god” is calling on high for the destruction of Harris and her campaign. If this kind of open threat was made against Trump these idiots would be losing their minds to have it investigated and someone punished for such treason.
We all know the drill by now, the media does not equally cover these kinds of issues because the media has stopped being unbiased and only reports what the owner wants reported. Another example of why a monopoly is not good in any environment, one voice is all that is heard.
The wealthy and elitist all feel that they should run things without them ever being held responsible for any negative issues. Socialism is a terrible thing and we want to do away with that as well as anything that may threaten our right to rule.
The problem here is that socialism is what has been the main building block of society. Even the first humans learned that if they banded together they had a better chance at getting enough to eat or protecting the group from predators. The modern world is a showcase of social activity.
Roads, skyscrapers, automobiles, ships and airplanes are not built by one person on their own. Someone had an idea and then found the talent to take that concept and make it real. The wealthy think they can look down on those that are of their class, but who do they call when the toilet backs up? It is not another elitist because we don’t get our hands dirty.
If you think about life and how to enjoy it then you have to realize that without others providing the food on your table, the roof over your head, the light to see what you’re eating, and the plumbing to clean up after the meal, you know that social societies work. The societies that were dictated by a master group or individual may have survived but it did not advance.
The master was always concerned with self or self interest and wanted all resources committed to that end. Build my castle even though you live in a mud hut. Build my pyramid and you can bask in my glory but you are still in the barest of housing. This is also true of societies run by religion. Great churches were built to glorify God and the labor force made do the best they could. That labor force is the only thing that made that structure happen, without it the religious idea man would have had nothing.
Did these efforts advance mankind, for those that are religious the answer would be yes, and for others it did as well. These constructions brought about the trades that make things happen today. They not only consolidated their talents but they formed organizations to improve their positions in the grander scheme of things, and by doing so advanced society.

Had that not have happened we would still be living with candles made from fat and living in dirt huts while the master tried to stay warm in his drafty castle.

  • Debate Church & State

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

There are issues and issues that need to be discussed and broken down to highlight either the plus or minus of each. One of these is the debate over the idea that religion needs to be the driving force of society and government. So take a look at the nations that are currently run by religious leaders and the results it has on society.
Most of these nations are in the middle east and they have literally draconian laws that suppress women and dominate men all to appease the whims of a religious leader that has somehow gained power. They have a controlled world, through fear, reprisal and intimidation. Women are kept literally locked up and out of the way. Their dress covers them from top to bottom allowing no recognition or vanity to show through.
Prayers happen 5 to 7 times a day, stop what you are doing and pray. The interruption that are caused cannot be good for businesses. Many businesses that we know here most likely do not do so there. Ladies apparel and shoes, hair products getting your nails done. Elective cosmetic surgery such as breast enhancement. Women are not allowed to drive, get an education, vote or have a say in anything, they are but vessels to produce the next generation.
Men are controlled by the prayer cycle and religious police to see that they are doing what is required. They may earn a living but since it is a class society advancement only happens for those at the top. Playing soccer or gambling seemed to be the major activities of the masses.
We have people here that want to bring religious control to our society, along with a great deal of suppression of the female part of that society. Somehow they rather misinformed individuals think that this will turn everything into some utopia. The need to suppress women probably is caused by the fact that none of these guys can get a date, with the attitude that women are to bow to them is it any wonder.
Looking back at history things have changed in our society as acceptance or suppression has ebbed and flowed. The 19 teens were and age of dark clothing and long dresses, and just very straightlaced. The 20’s were just the opposite with the flappers and smoking and all that jazz. Along came the 30’s and the depression and we are back to drab. The war years were a mix of glamor and uniforms. The 50’s were getting dressed up whenever possible, Father Knows Best and all that sort of thing. The 60’s brought drugs, sex and rock and roll. So we have cycled back and forth and we are at a point that is confused and confusing.
Politically we are either going to hold democracy close and continue with life on a social plane or we are going to digress to a class society with the rich having the power and the rest of us being left to the scraps. The rich would like the class society and they just have to decide if they want the religion or not. If they go that way they may have to give up on the midlife crisis things like trophy wives and fancy cars, we will have to wait and see. Maybe if they let the religious leaders have those things it will make a difference.
So is the democratic society that has socialist tones a bad thing. When you say that socialism takes away the ability to exploit opportunities then we must ask how is this being done. No one is held back from growth, what they are being asked to do is not be selfish about that growth. Social societies make sure everyone is treated equally and given a leg up when needed, not left of the side of the road. I do not see our society being at that point as we still have lots of marginal people around and nothing tells me that is going to change anytime soon.

So for those that feel they must throw a vengeful god into our national leadership position let me leave you with a poem.
May bleeding piles possess you, And corns grown on your feet, May crabs as big as horseflies crawl on your balls and eat, And when you are old and feeble a syphilitic wreck, May your spine fall through your ass and break your f_____? neck.

  • Do we trust poles?

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

Apparently the polls show that people trust (?) Trump more with the economy than Harris. It seems rather strange that the mug with a history of bankrupts, losing money on a casino, and having all these outstanding debts because he does not pay his bills is trusted.
His plan to raise tariffs which is nothing more than putting a tax for the consumer on items seems to have no effect on opinions. He spent 4 years in the White House and used every second of it to steal from the people for self enrichment. His entire life has been and continues to be about the amassing of wealth. His campaign offers nothing in the way of policies except on the issue of tariffs, and getting rid of immigrants
The present administration has brought jobs back to this country, improved so many things including the economy and VP Harris has been a part of that and yet economic trust goes to the man with a felony record. Time to wake up. Our democracy is in the balance with the plans the republican backers have with project 2025 we are doomed. The wealth behind that movement truly indicates that for all their professors of religion and christian values they are nothing more than self absorbed asses.
The plan would put religion ahead of the government. Every nation that is run as a theocracy is totally messed up. The nations of the middle east are living proof of what a giant mess that system creates. It is especially true of women’s rights, they have none. That program would take away their vote, their right to health care, maybe their right to education and the list could be endless.
In the 1960’s Kennedy ran for President and he was the first Catholic to do so. The great fear was that he would take his orders from the Pope rather than the American People. That did not happen and even today we have a Catholic President, but it is the members of the Supreme Court that are taking orders from an outside source and that is not the Pope but they do tend to follow the teachings of the church rather than the Constitution.
The nation was established with the ideal of being welcoming and encompassing of all that wished to come here. No where in the Constitution does it reference God or a particular religion. Today we have people making statements like the Church should run the Government, and those that do not follow our mandates should be put to death. The inquisition all over. Why does anyone want to become a lemming and run headlong over the edge of the cliff and into the sea? The only reason for such behavior is that as an individual you cannot believe in yourself enough to accomplish anything unless you bring along a spiritual life preserver to keep you afloat.
The need to have an out when things don’t go the way you hoped, like the election was stolen from me, maybe the reason for claiming to be religious. The question then becomes do you give the faith the credit when good fortune comes your way or is it because you are just too wonderful in your own right? This is the paradox of religion and many that profess religious faith and it is especially true of those that try to force their faith down your throat.
As for faith or trust in the candidates in this election we should look to those that have our best interests at heart. The candidate that believes it is better to lift people rather than trod on them.

  • Interesting Facts

Umbrellas were once used only by women.

Umbrellas have been around for a long time — at least 3,000 years, according to T.S. Crawford’s A History of the Umbrella — but they were used by only select segments of the population for much of that history. Ancient Egyptians used them to shade their pharaohs, setting the tone for an association with royalty and nobility that would also surface in China, Assyria, India, and other older civilizations. Meanwhile, they were deemed effeminate by ancient Greeks and the Romans who assumed many of their cultural habits. It should be noted that these early umbrellas protected against the sun, not rain, and were generally used by women to shield their complexions. The association between women and umbrellas persisted through much of Europe for centuries, and stubbornly remained into the 18th century, even after the first waterproof umbrellas had been created (around the 17th century in France).

In England, at least, the man credited with ushering in a new age of gender-neutral weather protection was merchant and philanthropist Jonas Hanway. Having spotted the umbrella put to good use during his many travels, Hanway took to carrying one through rainy London in the 1750s, a sight met with open jeering by surprised onlookers. The greatest abuse apparently came from coach drivers, who counted on inclement weather to drive up demand for a dry, comfy ride. But Hanway took the derision in stride. Shortly after his death in 1786, an umbrella advertisement surfaced in the London Gazette, a harbinger of sunnier days to come for the accessory’s reputation as a rain repellant for all.

  • What do you value?

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

Saw an article about a new product line. The items mentioned are based on some very common items you see all the time. The unique aspect of these particular items is brought about by a very real concern that has been created by a gross misinterpretation of the 2nd Amendment.
If you are guessing at what this product line might be, well glory be, it is bullet proof products for your child to attend school. Backpacks, pencil bags, note books, just to name a few. Do we dare ask why this has even been thought of? The answer is simple, the phrase “The Right to Bear Arms” .
Every time there is a school shooting or a shooting involving a minor the advocates of the 2nd Amendment that scream and holler about their rights should all have to walk around with a label on their chests so the rest of society knows who to blame. Sounds punitive doesn’t it ? The tale of the Scarlet Letter or the sign the Jews had to wear in Nazi Germany come to mind. Both the result of punishment for doing or being something not approved of.
So what has brought this armor plating to our schools is the lack of common sense. Guns may have been invented for purposes other than killing other humans, but that sort of technology always advances during times of war. The number of wars and the number of advances in ways to kill have been numerous during mankind’s history. The items that have been developed specifically for use in conducting war need to remain in the hands of those that are going to war, not John Q Public.
The father that bought his son a weapon of war while the son was underage in Georgia has now been charged with equal crimes as the son who used that weapon to kill people. Lack of common sense or abject stupidity.
Those are the obvious causes for why the gun laws in this country are so obviously screwed up. The right to have access to, or carry a weapon should be weighed against the potential harm that can be done with that weapon in the wrong hands. What are the wrong hands? Well think about the people you know and the different personality types you encounter. Someone that is not quite bright, someone that gets angry at the slightest provocation, someone that has a habit of demeaning or threatening others, all of these types need to be evaluated before they are even considered for gun ownership.
It seems that the gun advocacy people are not concerned with public safety but rather only with their right to have guns at any cost. Common sense still says they don’t need weapons of war unless they want to be consolidated into a militia and drilled and prepared to be utilized for war as the nation sees fit. The other common sense thing that needs to happen with guns is to treat them like the law treats pets, boats, rvs, automobiles and income and tax them annually. The more you have the higher the cost, the type makes a difference as well and they must be insured so that any death caused by one of those instruments provides compensation for those left behind. That requirement alone could easily be enough to make the selfish attitude of “I gotta have it” a serious reassessment.

  • Did you know?

Although the sky is blue throughout the year, it’s often a richer blue in the fall and winter, especially at latitudes farther from the equator. Why? Well, the answer has to do with both electromagnetism and the biology of the human eye. As a refresher: All visible colors are tied to some wavelength along the electromagnetic spectrum. When sunlight enters Earth’s atmosphere, gas and dust particles reflect the shorter wavelengths of visible light (such as blue) more than longer wavelengths (such as red). That — and the sensitivity of the human eye to the color blue — is why the sky appears as a cool sapphire.

However, as the seasons progress, one part of this equation changes: the sun’s position. As the sun gets lower and lower in the sky during its annual journey back toward the equator (and eventually the Tropic of Capricorn), the angle of the sun’s light hitting the atmosphere causes even more blue light to scatter, while red and green light decrease. That causes the sky to turn an even richer blue. These blue skies are especially easy to see in much of North America as cooler temperatures mean less moisture (and therefore fewer clouds), giving you an uninterrupted view of that deep azure atmosphere.

  • Republican Chicanery

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

The nation is again being held hostage as the republican party under Trumps (he is at present a private citizen with only personal interest) orders to sink the entire country or give him what he wants. This is absolute lunacy and anyone with a brain knows it.
The law they are making a fuss over already exists, they just want a way to stop people from voting so they are twisting another requirement into the language of the order. Everyone of the people that are putting us at risk should not be reelected and should have all of their benefits stripped as they leave. They should also be banned on pain of imprisonment from becoming beltway bandits, or lobbyists.
It seems that we have this out and out conflict between parties and we the people are powerless to do anything about it. The project 2025 has a listing of all the requirements they think are necessary to become a civil servant. A code of ethics is no doubt included in the description, none of the points of the description or points of ethics are met by Trump. We need a set of standards to put people in office. They need to have a list of parameters they must follow and violations should be punishable by determination of employment. Government is a business and it needs to run like one.
To enlist in the military and have the opportunity to select a career choice you must meet certain requirements. Your intelligence is tested to see if you are capable of the job, your background is investigated to make sure you are trustworthy, and of course, you have to be physically fit. To be employed in the highest ranks of our government all you have to be is capable of getting enough money together to campaign. No one checks the rest of the stuff and as a result we have idiots and less than honest people in the House, the Senate and the Supreme Court, and another is trying to get into the Presidency.
We seem to have the system built backwards, a soldier that carries a rifle into battle has to have a better character rating than your representative in Congress. No wonder people don’t trust the government. It is a case of when you have the money to get elected then you run for office. Then when something major happens in your region back home, you have the money to take a vacation in Mexico till the power is back home and the mess is cleaned up. Perish the thought that you should be there helping get things done.
It is time to start the process of putting people in office that wish to represent the people. They need to be intelligent and willing to compromise for the greater good, not just stubborn and obnoxious to get their way. Governance has a limit as to how far into the lives of the people legislating can go, and that limit is set by where helping and uplifting end and interfering begin.
The laws we have established are all telling us what not to do, like the 10 Commandments tell us what not to do, proving they were written by man on God. A deity that is powerful enough to do all that is attributed to him would be giving guidance to encourage joy and unity, such as Love Thy Neighbor, not negatives all the time. Positive approach methods do not teach hate or evil or divisiveness so why are we listening to all that from someone that thinks of himself as a God?
