The Great Wall of China is widely considered one of the greatest engineering feats of all time. Built continuously from the third century BCE to the 17th century CE, this series of walls and natural barriers stretches for around 13,000 miles. (Still, despite a persistent myth, it is not visible from the moon or space, at least not with the naked eye.) The Great Wall was originally the idea of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the founder of the Qin dynasty and the first emperor of a unified China, who wished to protect the country from barbarian attacks from the north.
Under his orders, many older, unconnected state walls and fortifications were removed and a number of existing walls were joined into a single system stretching from the eastern Hebei province to Gansu province in the west. The wall itself was 15 to 30 feet high, topped with ramparts of at least 12 feet, with guard towers distributed at regular intervals. Much of the Great Wall that we now see was constructed during the powerful Ming dynasty, starting from around 1474. Today, the most famous and iconic section of the Great Wall of China is located 43 miles northwest of Beijing. This section was rebuilt in the late 1950s and now attracts thousands of tourists every day.
I’m sure I’m not the only one but I don’t think I’m really ever happy so it’s hard to say when I’m the most happy because usually I walk through my days just getting by.
The Colorado Supreme Court has made the decision that Trump engaged in an insurrection and can not be on the ballot to be elected to any office according to the Constitution. Many other states have the issue waiting for a decision by their courts but have not gone forward with it. What next?
So the Supreme Court should now take up the issue. Will they follow the plain language of the Constitution or follow the guidance of who put them on the bench and not pay the law any attention? If they find that he cannot be on the ballot it will no doubt cause some sort of problems for the weaker minded folks that were willing to vote for him. If they find in his favor then they have effectively put themselves out of business. He wants to be a dictator and the last thing he needs is a branch of government that acts as a conscience getting in his way. Even if they do vote to allow him on the ballot it is no guarantee that he will win, but the years of nonsense we will be put through while he contests will be ridiculous just like everything else that has to do with Trump.
We keep hearing about the deep state and how the government has been weaponized and all this other scare tactic crap. The DOJ is doing what they are doing because the law of the nation demands that it be done, not because of the President. As far as deep state goes the only person or group that is involved in secret, dark efforts in reference to the election is Donald Trump and the GOP. If they can preach that nonsense enough times then the lemmings will follow and believe the crap. When someone has taken our politics and election efforts and invited or accepted interference by a foreign power then they are the ones guilty of dark state crimes, and the person that did that is Trump, no one else but him. He has sold his soul and our liberty for the sake of personal power and to keep his ego from suffering the truth which is that most don’t want him and we all wish he would just go away.
The need of the nation is to put common sense laws in place in all states. The re-establishment of the term “All Created Equal” and separate our politics from all religious doctrine. The Constitution calls for a separation of church and state and we need that to happen to be able to make reasonable laws for all to follow. Each religion has some point of view that is incompatible with logic and that means religion cannot and should not be allowed into the business of running a nation. The idea of having religion govern is nonsense and makes as much sense and having rectal octomosis which is when your optic nerve and your rectum get crossed up and it gives you a shitty outlook on life.
In the early years of the French Revolution, a revolutionary named Henri Grégoire conducted a survey of language throughout the fledgling republic and discovered a concerning truth: Most people living in France at the time didn’t actually speak French. On June 4, 1794, Grégoire reported the results of his survey to the revolutionary assembly, stating that there were no more than 3 million French speakers (11% of the population), and even fewer who were able to write it. In fact, the language was spoken more in the Netherlands and German states than it was in some parts of France.
Instead, a majority of French people spoke local dialects — for instance, a large southern population spoke Occitan, a Romance language influenced by Latin. This was seen as particularly embarrassing for the revolutionary cause, as three years earlier, diplomat Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand declared that “the multitude of corrupt dialects, the last remnants of feudalism, will be forced to disappear: necessity dictates so.” Grégoire’s survey only added fuel to the fire. Little more than a month after the survey, the revolutionary administration declared that “no public act may be written (or registered) other than in the French language, in any part of the territory of the Republic.” Luckily, France’s linguistic multiculturalism survived the prescriptive onslaught, and regional languages such as Occitan and Basque flourish to this day.
Saw an item about a boy in Mississippi that was with his mother at an appointment in a legal office when the urge to relieve himself hit. This office had no public restrooms, the boy’s mother was a client, does that not change your status? At any rate he could not be allowed to use the restroom so he went outside and tried to hide behind his mothers car and take care of business. Unfortunately he was seen by a Police Officer that arrested him and he was taken to court and put on probation for urinating in public. If you have not guessed it yet, the boy is black. Jim Crow lives.
Viewed a podcast about investing in AI. The basic story is that if you do not invest you will miss out and if you miss out then you will become one of the millions that will be on welfare. The reason, of course, is that AI is going to take over all the tasks that the rest of us have been making a living doing and we will all be out of work.
Great idea for the owners of businesses to project that they can put robots in to do the work, make the products, drive the trucks and all that and that the robots will require no breaks, medical insurance, vacation time, etc etc etc. The part of the equation I fail to understand is who is going to buy these products if we are all on welfare and only getting enough to survive? Maybe the people that are going to get rich from this will become benevolent and disperse some of their wealth to the rest of society so that we can at least enjoy all our leisure time, a little anyway.
It may be a bit far fetched but AI will have a purpose when we begin leaving this planet to colonize other planets in other systems. That will be the job of the AI’s to send forward as much as possible to help mankind get established in our new homes and they will be expendable to remain on earth no matter how bad things get until the end. That is counting on a great many things going in very specific directions but the idea is at least a useful purpose for robots that need very little or no human intervention.
The idea that AI can supplant humans and we are all going to become redundant and there is still a fortune to be made in this environment leaves some very large holes in the thought process. AI assistance I can understand but full on replacement seems unrealistic. Hopefully one of the uses for this technology will not be to wage war but I am guessing waging war will be one of the first uses.
All this machine takeover will provide lots of time for mankind to do what? Will we have the ability and intelligence to spend that time getting educated for our next leap forward or will we be so poverty stricken that we spend our time doing as we do today, waging war to claim others riches, blaming others for our misfortunes and shortfalls, and taking our frustrations out on any and all that are not strong enough to defend themselves, like children.
This advancement of technology is going to cause a great deal of discomfort among those that do not have the presents to realize that all the problems of the world are not answered in a book that was written 2000 years ago and that has not addressed any issue dealing with mechanized society.
John Wilkes Booth will forever be infamous for assassinating the man widely regarded as the greatest President in American history, but not all Lincoln-Booth relations were strained. A year or two before Honest Abe’s death, in fact, Edwin Booth — the older brother of John and a prominent actor — saved the life of Lincoln’s son Robert Todd Lincoln, who was then in his early 20s. (The precise date is unknown, but the event is believed to have taken place in either 1863 or 1864.)
The younger Lincoln found himself on a crowded train platform in Jersey City, New Jersey, and was accidentally pushed off the platform as a train departed. “In this situation the train began to move, and by the motion I was twisted off my feet, and had dropped somewhat, with feet downward, into the open space, and was personally helpless,” Robert Todd Lincoln later wrote of the event that put him in the path of the oncoming train. It was then that Booth grabbed him by the coat collar, saving him. Booth was well known enough as an actor for Lincoln to recognize his rescuer and even thank him by name. In April 1865, the day after his brother assassinated Lincoln, Edwin vowed never to return to the stage — a short-lived promise, as he gave an acclaimed performance in the title role of Hamlet the following year.
