What’s the story behind your nickname?
Never got a nickname… moved around to much as a kid for anything to ever stick even if I had gotten one. ☹️

What strategies do you use to maintain your health and well-being?
Honestly I have no strategy… I don’t drink or smoke by choice and refuse to get sucked into other people’s problems.
What are your future travel plans?
Most immediate will be to go to a Packers game for the up coming season, hopefully Packers/Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago… Big endeavor is to go to South Africa for at least 6 months to try and find my maternal grandfathers lineage, all I have is his name and when he moved from England to South Africa.
Changes to Modern Society
Dwain Northey (Gen X)
This is a question that could warrant a Doctoral Thesis because there are so many angles that one could take in adequately addressing the multitude of transformative things that could be done.
Frankly the evolution that modern society has undergone is not at all surprising based on the history of our species. From the minute homoerectus and homosapien were able to walk upright the mission was to exterminate one another… that hasn’t changed only the methods have become more efficient. We evolved to bond into social groups for mere survival because we, as a species, were not the strongest or fastest. We individually were not on top of the food chain, but as a group our ancestors changed the odds.
That would have been fine if that’s as far as group think went but as we all know it didn’t stop with just survival then conquest came into the equation. Conquest created wars… wars over land, riches, ideology and any excuse to take. Religion was I assume a hope to quell the mass murder of others but the man-made idolatry has only gave the bipedal thinking mammal another reason to disagree and dominate another.
Honestly there isn’t anything that will dramatically change the direction of modern society. We could instill in every person the Golden Rule, do unto others as you would have them do to you. That would be great, but it discounts sociopathy, the lack of empathy for others. It also ignores one of mans biggest downfalls, greed.
If by some cosmic phenomenon, karma kicked every person in the ass every time they, intentionally or not, hurt another maybe thing could change… and then again I may win the Lottery.
All we can hope to do is be our best selves, threat others with kindness and compassion and treat our children to do the same, then maybe someday the utopia that Gene Roddenberry & Star Trek envisioned will become a reality…
What do you listen to while you work?
I listen to political talk radio all day, Stephanie Miller, or podcast like pod save America, Bob Cesca, the Midas touch
Comfort Food…
Dwain Northey (Gen X)
I realize this is supposed to be a nonconfrontational question that makes the respondent think of a culinary delight that makes them feel happy and evokes fond memories, but my brain didn’t go there when I read the question.
My first thought is that this question comes from a seat of privilege. In this country many live to eat not the reason that our ancestors had to eat to live. There are people in this country that are hungry and children that go to bed with empty stomachs that disregards that nations that go without regularly.
We have a cable network that is all about food and cooking and I am as guilty as anyone for watching it. Has anyone ever thought about these cooking competitions where multiple chefs cook a meal to be judged. These chefs make just enough food to present a composed dish for judging and the judges eat one or two bites from each plate they are presented to judge. The amount of effort and wasted food is obscene.
The Food Network is just one travesty in the absurd food wasting culture we have in the United State… we sponsor gluttony competitions where a person is challenged to consume an obscene amount of food in one sitting.
So in answer to Comfort Foods, if you are eating your feeling you have a problem, if food evokes fond memories that is great… but everyone please remember that this nation alone wastes enough food every day to feed a nation of hungry people.
What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why?
Growing up in the 70’s and early 80’s with a fairly serious military NCO father we never played board games and I never got into video or card games… so I know it’s odd and very boring but I just don’t play games.
What foods would you like to make?
I like making super simple things and make them look fancy like Roman noodles with steamed clams or mussels
Dogs or cats?
Have had both currently have a dog
Which activities make you lose track of time?
If I start writing on my blog and it’s something I’m really interested in I do lose track of time
