https://www.cbsnews.com/news/naacp-travel-advisory-florida-says-state-hostile-to-black-americans/
Remember the good old days when there were only travel advisories and or ban for, what some would call, third word countries? Well now because of the vile vitriol of one Governor Ron DeSantis the state of Florida, a vacation destination, has received a travel advisory by the NAACP.
The wannabe future President has made the climate so venomous in Florida the anyone who is a part of any minority group does not feel safe in the state. Black, Brown, LGTBQ+, these are all groups that are under attack in the Sunshine State. The majority Republican legislature and their fearful leader has passed laws that make almost everything a jailable offence and the fact that the state has very loose gun laws and a stand your ground law makes it more dangerous than being a blonde female in central America.
Florida residents are able to carry concealed guns without a permit under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. The law, which goes into effect on July 1, means that anyone who can legally own a gun in Florida can carry a concealed gun in public without any training or background check. This with their ridiculous stand your ground law, ‘Florida’s “Stand-Your-Ground” law was passed in 2005. The law allows those who feel a reasonable threat of death or bodily injury to “meet force with force” rather than retreat. Similar “Castle Doctrine” laws assert that a person does not need to retreat if their home is attacked.’ Makes it really sketchy to go there.
This in top of the don’t say gay rule and the new trans ruling that just passed.
“Florida lawmakers have no shame. This discriminatory bill is extraordinarily desperate and extreme in a year full of extreme, discriminatory legislation. It is a cruel effort to stigmatize, marginalize and erase the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender youth. Let me be clear: gender-affirming care saves lives. Every mainstream American medical and mental health organization – representing millions of providers in the United States – call for age-appropriate, gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary people.
“These politicians have no place inserting themselves in conversations between doctors, parents, and transgender youth about gender-affirming care. And at the same time that Florida lawmakers crow about protecting parental rights they make an extra-constitutional attempt to strip parents of – you guessed it! – their parental rights. The Human Rights Campaign strongly condemns this bill and will continue to fight for LGBTQ+ youth and their families who deserve better from their elected leaders.”
This law makes it possible for anyone to just accuse someone of gender affirming care to have their child taken from them this would include someone traveling from out of state. This alone justifies a travel ban to the Magic Kingdom for families.
Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned DeSantis holy war with Disney, the largest employer in the state. I really hope the Mouse eats this ass holes lunch.
Well that’s enough bitching, thanks again for suffering though my rant.

Jack Smith
Dwain Northey (Gen X)
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23839625-trump-indictment
So, for those of you that live under a rock, Jack Smith has handed down an indictment containing 4 counts against DJT (defendant) for his action in the January 6, 2021, attempt to subvert the 2020 Presidential Election.
Jack Smith isn’t screwing around this indictment should block Donald from ever being able to seek office under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment prohibits anyone who has previously taken an oath of office (Senators, Representatives, and other public officials) from holding public office if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States. Every State should disallow his name from appearing on the ballot. Unfortunately, the lemmings that are still in his camp will continue to decry ‘witch hunt’ and insist that their godking be elevated to a position of power.
Even his republican challengers for the nomination should be shouting this form the roof tops but only Chris Christy to this point has taken the orange menace to task for his crimes. Granted I would love to watch Donald fall again to attain or regain the White House but my joy in watching him spin out of control is secondary to my desire to strengthen our democracy.
I realize that if DJT isn’t the republican nominee it could be Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and he is deplorable as well. If he is the nominee, he certainly can’t run on his record as Governor. The national average inflation rate was 3%, but in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro area, inflation rates reached 9%, according figures released by the Consumer Price Index this week. The Tampa-Clearwater metro area saw inflation rates of 7.3%, according to the CPI. Seriously, how can he go into a national debate and tout ‘make America Florida’ when under his charge Florida has a higher inflation rate than China and Brazil. Not to mention his fight with Disney or that he could be brought up on federal charges for human trafficking for his shipping immigrants to sanctuary cities, or banning books, I could keep going… This walking tumor should not be in the White House either.
So lets focus on the 3rd indictment of a former President and just hope that he has lost enough of his supporters so that there wont be violence in the streets.

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?
Did not grow up having any kind of traditions and that is the path I have followed… is that a tradition?

Day in the life
Was today typical?
I read the news today, oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, I just had to laugh
I saw the photographHe blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They’d seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of LordsI saw a film today, oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had to look
Having read the book
I’d love to turn you onWoke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, I noticed I was late
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke
And somebody spoke and I went into a dreamI read the news today, oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall
I’d love to turn you onSource: LyricFind

me(?)
I have a hard time writing stuff like this probably the main reason I refuse to go on any dating app.
I am your typical Gen X… sarcasm is my first language and a lot of the time when I am around other I have been described as a walking ‘eye roll’. Also like many of my generation I will do anything for another if they need me but I will never ask for help myself… I truly understand the meaning of ALONE and at this point it is a choice that I have made… Self sufficient I suppose that’s how I would describe myself to someone.

Perspective
Dwain Northey (Gen X)
As a rideshare driver and one that listens to political podcasts and news (left leaning) I invariably get some push back but sometimes can lead to an interesting conversation.
It’s true that I have never been someone that shy’s away from uncomfortable topics i.e. politics, religion… I fact I relish those back-and-forth topics as long as the other person is amenable to the conversation.
I was listening to something this morning and the topic was the strained platform of the current republican party, namely their restrictive position on abortion. Always a touchy topic and everyone has their opinion which I totally believe that everyone is entitled to have their view, but they also have to understand that others can disagree with them.
Well during this the rider said that this was a touchy topic because he was currently in the middle of that debate with his ‘girlfriend’ because she found out that she was pregnant. She does not what to continue with the pregnancy and it is still very early on, but his opinion is why does she get the final say if he doesn’t agree with it.
I asked him how long they had been together, and he said not that long… but. But always leads to something but he didn’t go any further.
So, I asked if he had plans to stay with his girlfriend and potentially support a child for the next 18+ years? All I got was silence.
Then I proposed the equity of time argument… I said realistically your part in the act took minutes, but you expect your girlfriend to invest a minimum of 40 weeks and all the health and emotional issues the come with pregnancy, that is if she doesn’t want to keep that child. I reasserted that he hadn’t affirmed that this was a situation that he was ready to support for possibly the next 18 years.
This begged the question of how his belief that abortion was wrong eclipsed the other parties when they would be the person with 100% of the responsibility of this accident growing inside their body. He really hadn’t taken that argument into perspective and when he exited that car appeared to be second guessing his position.
I propose that next time someone disagrees with your position on any controversial topic each party politely explains their position (perspective) on the subject and then see if there is some common ground or enlightenment from either side. This I feel has been lost in today’s very tribal mentality and needs to be reestablished.
I have a suggestion for our current political upheaval, ideas should be presented unvarnished with no party tag line and be judged purely on the merit of the idea presented. I have read party platforms to very ‘conservative’ people and had them completely disagree with the premise until I tell them where it came from, then invariably they tell me that I am lying. But whatever…
We used to have ideas that move us all forward but differed on the route we should take to get there, now if the idea, good or bad, comes from a position party is instantly denigrated. Take for example MTG coming out and saying that Biden is actively helping the build infrastructure, ensure access to healthcare, and creating jobs… all good things right? Not to the republicans they are wholly against all of these because President Biden is getting them done. They have lost PERSPECTIVE, the one thing that can save us.
Thanks for putting up with another rant.

If you could bring back one dinosaur, which one would it be?
The irresponsible nature to want to bring back a giant long extinct animal speaks volumes about the nature of man. To bring back an animal that consumes an exorbitant amount of resources for our amusement or an apex predator that would cause untold harm is scientific insanity. We have to technology to recreate images of these beast without the damage that physically bringing them back. Let’s focus on fixing what we have broken instead of recreating something that has long past.

If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?
Don’t need 2 tickets… if they for today it would be anywhere that the temperature is less than 80° because it’s going to be 110° + here again today for the 26th day .

What’s the story behind your nickname?
Never got a nickname… moved around to much as a kid for anything to ever stick even if I had gotten one. ☹️

Imagine

Dwain Northey (Gen X)
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only skyImagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, tooImagine all the people
Livin’ life in peace
YouYou may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as oneImagine all the people
Livin’ for today
AhImagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of manImagine all the people
Sharing all the world
YouYou may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as oneSong and Lyric by John Lennon
I have loved this song since the first time I heard it but the more I read the lyrics the more profound I find the meaning.
Seriously, if there were no borders, no hate, no greed what a different world we would live in.
I know Lennon wrote this song during the ladder years of Vietnam, war and death was on everyone’s mind especially the generation that was being conscripted to fight in a war that they had no rational of why they were putting their lives on the line. We seem like we are a long way from Vietnam, but the millennial generation had their war in the middle east that was just as ridiculous and unfounded although there was no draft to force them into an unjustified war. The war in Afghanistan and Iraq lasted as long as Gen Z was alive… My son is 18year old and I am grateful that we are not currently in a state of war.
Maybe I’m a dreamer but I hope that there will be no more major conflicts on a global scale, but I don’t think Vladimir Putin has the same dream.
Unfortunately, war is in our DNA and as a species we are too arrogant to put petty differences aside and recognize that we are all on the same spinning blue marble floating through the cosmos.
To quote John Lennon…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I hope I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one… -
Topsy Turvy
Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)
With the predictions of major events by science it makes one wonder if there is really a reason to worry about politics or even paying your bills. Major earthquakes to occur, floods and extreme heat all would be less than ideal, but are they really going to happen? Hopefully they will not and we will have to deal with the other situations just not Mother Nature having a fit.
If a federal court takes the advice given that a person that is threatening and encouraging others to threaten harm and/or death because someone is being charged with crimes should not be walking the streets and puts Trump in jail at least till certain events are concluded.
At present our national focus is on the antics of one very overstuffed shit bag. He continues to be in the public eye when he should be out of sight, out of touch and out of drawing breath. We have had people that were dissatisfied with our government and they did some terrible things to prove they were unhappy with things. It got them nothing but trouble, one was Timothy MacViegh and he bombed a federal building and killed a bunch of children in a daycare, that got him the death penalty. What is to be the fate of this idiot I do not know, but for the record it had best fit the crime.
The issue of his being arrested and jailed is another cause for some concern at least from the less thinking elements. He did not win the last election, the documents he took are not his to take and sell, and his continued pushing the envelope for violence will only bring problems to the people that are swept up in the madness. Do the people that are willing to put it out there really think the police or National Guard are going to hold back this time. If I were called to defend the Capitol or any facility and I was in fear for my life someone would go before me as I would do what was necessary to stay alive. We do not need a civil war to resolve our problems we need a civil treaty with the ideal situation of I listen to your opinion, you listen to mine and then we sit down and work out a plan that makes the best for all, not the best for Trump or Biden or anyone else, that includes the rich bastards pulling the strings. We take back the congress and turn it into a legislative body instead of a mockery of stupidity.
Another issue that seems to be on the board is the idea that if a woman were to want an abortion she should be put to death. Well, all you far thinking Christian Men when you kill the mother you kill the baby or blob regardless of the stage of development. Let us take this a step further and do a DNA test on the fetus, match it to the father and kill him as well. Must be a reason the woman wants to rid herself of the child, rape, he is the rapist, not a nice person. This is incest, really no good reason for that except being, yuk. She was drunk or drugged or just did not want to get hurt. Even if it was consensual protection is available and if not used negative results happen. The other possibility is that the father is one of the most generous Christian Men that feel she should die if she doesn’t want the baby.
Societies are built on the idea that daughters are expendable and yet without them there will be no next generation. Daughters have been sold for various amounts and reasons throughout history. Some require that the daughter be paid for before a wedding, so then we have the normal marriage where the husband to be buys an expensive ring to get the ball rolling and then continues to buy things for as long as he lives to keep her happy, maybe.
