https://www.cbsnews.com/news/naacp-travel-advisory-florida-says-state-hostile-to-black-americans/

Remember the good old days when there were only travel advisories and or ban for, what some would call, third word countries? Well now because of the vile vitriol of one Governor Ron DeSantis the state of Florida, a vacation destination, has received a travel advisory by the NAACP.

The wannabe future President has made the climate so venomous in Florida the anyone who is a part of any minority group does not feel safe in the state. Black, Brown, LGTBQ+, these are all groups that are under attack in the Sunshine State. The majority Republican legislature and their fearful leader has passed laws that make almost everything a jailable offence and the fact that the state has very loose gun laws and a stand your ground law makes it more dangerous than being a blonde female in central America.

Florida residents are able to carry concealed guns without a permit under a bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. The law, which goes into effect on July 1, means that anyone who can legally own a gun in Florida can carry a concealed gun in public without any training or background check. This with their ridiculous stand your ground law, ‘Florida’s “Stand-Your-Ground” law was passed in 2005. The law allows those who feel a reasonable threat of death or bodily injury to “meet force with force” rather than retreat. Similar “Castle Doctrine” laws assert that a person does not need to retreat if their home is attacked.’ Makes it really sketchy to go there.

This in top of the don’t say gay rule and the new trans ruling that just passed.

“Florida lawmakers have no shame. This discriminatory bill is extraordinarily desperate and extreme in a year full of extreme, discriminatory legislation. It is a cruel effort to stigmatize, marginalize and erase the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender youth. Let me be clear: gender-affirming care saves lives. Every mainstream American medical and mental health organization – representing millions of providers in the United States – call for age-appropriate, gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary people.

“These politicians have no place inserting themselves in conversations between doctors, parents, and transgender youth about gender-affirming care. And at the same time that Florida lawmakers crow about protecting parental rights they make an extra-constitutional attempt to strip parents of – you guessed it! – their parental rights. The Human Rights Campaign strongly condemns this bill and will continue to fight for LGBTQ+ youth and their families who deserve better from their elected leaders.”

This law makes it possible for anyone to just accuse someone of gender affirming care to have their child taken from them this would include someone traveling from out of state. This alone justifies a travel ban to the Magic Kingdom for families.

Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned DeSantis holy war with Disney, the largest employer in the state. I really hope the Mouse eats this ass holes lunch.

Well that’s enough bitching, thanks again for suffering though my rant.

  • What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why?

Growing up in the 70’s and early 80’s with a fairly serious military NCO father we never played board games and I never got into video or card games… so I know it’s odd and very boring but I just don’t play games.

  • Gov. Dumb Ass from the Great State of Flori-DU

    Dwain Northey (Gen X)

So here we go again; Ron DeSantis is putting another nail in the coffin of real history of non-white people. His latest assault on the education system and his continued campaign against the ‘WOKE’ in his state is that in the fall curriculum it will be taught that slaves actually got an advantage by their enslavement because it provided them with a vocational skill.  Also, that in race mass killings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that the black communities were committing violent acts that were as bad if not worse than the acts that caused the historical acts.

This retelling of history neglects to mention the hundreds of thousand if not millions of abducted Africans died before ever reaching the shores of North America and that their bodies were summarily discarded overboard without a second thought. Of course, the mere that slaves were experimented on to try and prove the white theory that black people were inferior would never be mentioned in the supposed ‘color blind’ curriculum. We wouldn’t want white children to feel uncomfortable with a truth about the atrocities that the white settlers of this nation committed.

This sad excuse for a person, much less a government official and one that is running for President, has stated his own crusade to ‘whitewash’ history as well as force anyone different from himself and his narrow beliefs back into the closet. He has already banned Drag Queen story time and removed books from libraries that even mention LGBTQ topics, I am sure anything that examines the Black experience is next. During the 2021-2022 school year, 566 books were banned across 21 school districts in Florida, according to data tracked by PEN America.

The ‘Moms for Liberty’ group are fanning out across the country going to public libraries trying to have certain titles removed from the shelves because they disagree with the content. Sadly, many of these concerned activists don’t even have children that they are professing to protect.

These narrow views and banning books that are found to be offensive or espouse view contrary to a political view are a very slippery slope to Fascism. Hitler banned books and subjugated an entire portion of the populist based on lies… Ron DeSantis (Death Sentence) is walking the same path, thankfully he has the charisma of day-old cheese spread. Unfortunately, Florida’s Governor isn’t the only wannbe dictator we have to deal with, Texas Governor Abbot is also a piece of work not to mention the leader of the Orange Mafia and his desire to re-attain the Presidency so that he can change to entire complexion of our government.

All this is really scary and I recommend that everyone find a banned book list and then go out and read every one of those titles that you can and have your children read them as well.

This now a call to action… and I hope that anyone who reads this takes it seriously.

  • Steller Representation

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

Note: this should have been posted a couple months back but got temporally overlooked.

It is nearly the end of April and many people are probably digging into the records of the Ice Age to find the answer to how much did people pay in taxes back then to get the government to come and melt the ice. Straight from MTG, a stellar representative from the Georgia, was this the best you could find to put in office?

The marvelous Mr. T. is back at his usual efforts to create problems with people and within factions of people. He has a new name for Joe Biden and I am sure that it is not complementary. You would think that if you are going to have to ask that person for a pardon so that you don’t spend the rest of your life in prison that you would at least keep a civil tongue in your head. A bit too much as he has continued with his usual line to try and disrupt law and order in his court cases.

It is time for the judge to put T in a cell and restrict his movements, his voice and make sure he can not see his image. A small cell without windows, make it sound proof so that voices make no exit, and no mirrors,

Another mass shooting for no logical reason that anyone can think of, except maybe someone from Texas. The shooter entered his neighbors house and shot 4 adults and an 8 year old child because he was asked to stop firing his weapon in his back yard at 11:30 at night. This person deserves no trial, no hearing, no nothing just kill him the way he did the others. It is a shame that you can not hold the governor of the state as an accomplice to this crime as his ego and Texas frame of mind said he was going to defy the President because we do as we please and besides the President is a damned democrat. I am sure that prayers and condolences are on offer for these losses.

The fractured society that we live in at present is a gift from the political aspirations of one person and we are all suffering the rewards of the endless hate messages. The attitude that we can do anything we wish to include kill someone and nothing will be said is another example of the mind of Trump and all that follow his lead.

Trump is hoping that Biden will pardon him and that would be a big mistake for our democracy, not to mention our legal system. Every idiot that goes out and kills people or causes them to be killed will be asking to be pardoned on the grounds it worked for the top idiot why not them.

Suppose the latest is true and Trump is broke, he has been claiming that all of his expenses have been his own and he has paid for them. This is hard to believe as he has been raking in donations for years and paying his legal fee with those funds. He has made millions selling hats and coins and whatever that is all about him. He is also making money off of selling secrets to foreign powers. This is the kind of person we want to be our representative to the world, the one that will steal a kiss from a nice looking woman, even though that woman may be a member of some other nations political leaderships house.

Our other cultural giant has to be the governor of Texas. He continues to send buses of people to other cities that have enter the state of Texas via the border. He has not done anything to create a safer place for his citizens to live in by not doing anything to make is harder to get guns. The result tis that individuals that are just not wrapped to tight are shooting up malls and chirches and schools. The laws that were enacted in Texas are in direct opposition to what the national government asked for. The idea is to defy the federal government and at this time and place I think it is time to bring that governor into the spotlight and try him as an accomplice in these shootings.

In an English program a former soldier was asked if he had killed anyone. His answer was that he had, and the person asking wanted to know if it bothered him and how did he justifying such actions. He said it did bother him but sense he was the Queens employee and it was her weapon and her bullets and a war she had sent him to that made it right.

Is this the defense of Jan 6? The weapons were privately owned or created, the actions were encouraged by others and he result was messy.

  • What foods would you like to make?

I like making super simple things and make them look fancy like Roman noodles with steamed clams or mussels

  • Retired Vet has an Opinion

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

We are now being fed a line about not recruiting white, christian, Patriot family members into the military. With recruiting being at a low point anyway the military does not have the latitude to be so picky. The problems with overweight and poor test scores is a bigger issue than all the racial and religious stuff that can be brought to the table.

As for Patriot family background, if these people coming into the service are of the mind set that they can swear allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and then participate in an insurrection at the behest of Donald J Trump, then they all need to either stay home or be ready to face a firing squad as traitors.

The on going crap about WOKE is an excuse to make problems. The principal goes back a long ways in history. For the personal need to keep the faith people built Priest Holes to hide Priest so they could practice their faith. Later people modified their homes to help slaves escape to freedom, poor idea by republican standards, loss of money. The same practice took place in Europe during the war to hide Jews and downed fliers or escapees. Every act of kindness of this nature came with big risks attached.

That history and those individuals that risked so much are a big part of what we as a nation are today. Take that attitude and turn it on it’s head and you have all the things that encouraged Henry VIII to destroy a religion, make people feel they had every right to hold others in bondage because their skin was dark, or herd people into gas chambers and murder them for being Jewish.

Take your MAGA and GAGA on it. Some people travel through life and leave a path of compassion and good, Danny Thomas. Others leave a scorched earth scene from a horror film. At this point in time the GOP seems bent on scorching as much of our world as possible.

Collude with tyrants, sell pardons, steal and sell national secrets, and claim the right to do so because you are you and everybody’s picking on you. Another example of why certain people should not be allowed to have children.

Now we have people that are oh so upset because their leader is being prosecuted for all kinds of crimes both against private parties and states and the nation. How do people get so easily sucked into nonsense.  As stated before if you go back and listen to what he has said about most of the topics he is being prosecuted for he is proud of what he has done, would do it again and believes that he can get away with it.

  • Rally in Waco

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

Judging by the news the fans and followers were out in force for their favorite BS artist. How are people that proclaim themselves to be better than others because they are from Texas get so involved with a New Yorker slumlord? His speech about being a savior really tips the mark when you think about the religious event that happened in Waco 30 years ago, that one ended in tragedy as this one will.

A fairy tale begins :Once upon a time” a war story begins, “You ain’t going to believe this shit, but it’s true” a myth begins, “In the beginning” and a fallacy begins, “I am your Savior”. Put that in the current political makeup of our very troubled nation and where does it take you? Criminal charges against a former President, the majority party in the House of Representatives attempting to put themselves in a position to interfere with a state legal action, a Supreme Court top heavy with people of questionable moral standards as at least 2 of them lied to get seated. A governor that dictates laws about education and private business practices and also running for election to the highest office in the land.

Let us say that T makes it back into the WH, are we going to be saved from some horrible liberal plight? Chances are we’ll see more of the wealth of the nation pass into fewer hands, we may find that the nations we have been working with for decades will become our enemies and the despot governments will be our friends. States that fail to back him will most likely find punitive actions taken, funds for schools, roads, and everything you can think of will be canceled. Vengeance is mine, says the Savior.

If DeS makes the grade the first amendment will no longer exist. Education will have to follow certain guidelines and of course, in both cases, voting rights will be curtailed to suit the leaders limitations. How will this be possible, because the people that would put these “leaders” in office will continue to give up rights to make the leader happy. Look out 1850 here we come.

Desecration of the land to find wealth, be that oil or gold or whatever, it will make no difference as long as it can be added to the “Leaders’ ‘ bank account. We started the process rolling in the first seating of T and it will no doubt be on the agenda again should he make it back into office.

How have we gotten so far away from a government of the people, by the people and for the people? The efforts of Congress 60 years ago to take our, the citizens, rights to control what they get paid, have as a medical program, and the golden parachute when they leave service got removed. We the people just got screwed.

The founding fathers set the entire thing up so that we would not have a ruling class that was untouchable and they found a way to change that. Today we have a generation of legislators that was brought up in the age of “not my fault”. They have no conscience when it comes to blaming others as long as I get my way. The belief that they are smarter than those before them and that they have their children in check only demonstrates how wrong they really are.

How many people work on jobs that require drug tests? Does Congress or the Supreme Court get tested? How many people get paid if they play hookey and don’t come to work? Same question again.

Our government was designed to allow differing points of view to be heard and given due consideration. It has fostered cooperation for most of the time that it has been in operation, but today it is dysfunctional because the membership is dysfunctional. Our house is in trouble because we are only getting the message sent by the extreme ends of the polls, not the logically endowed center of the road folks that make the bulk of our nation. Will we ever be able to get that control back? That is very unlikely, the best we can hope for is that we can put people in office that are of the middle of the road mentality.

The efforts to fire up the base support, the constant bitterness against anyone and everyone that does not bow and kiss the ground he walks on is tragic and stupid. The constant use of victimhood arises at every turn in the road. If I don’t win the election it is because others cheated and stole my glory. If I am indicted it proves that the deep state exists and is out to ruin America and to jail your president and blah blah blah.

This setting the stage for why I have not come out on top is so much crap. Even the media center that appears to be his greatest fan talks of how if he is indicted Russia and China will be upset, as if they were our allies. The only reason they will be upset is because if he is put away they will have no contact in the states that are willing to sell us down the river like he is.

Claims to love America and be pro American and yet he admires the most brutal character currently living.

  • The Gift that Keeps on Giving

    Dwain Northey (Gen X)

MTG is the gift that just keeps on giving… In her most recent, what was supposed to be, slam against President Biden she compared Biden to FDR and LBJ. Wow that is quite the insult to of the most admired and policy prolific Presidents of the 20th century.

Her slam was that Joe is finishing what these two giants stated with the New Deal and the Great Society both of those accomplishments helped average Americans…Oh the horror.

FDRs New Deal introduced major federal programs and agencies included the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the Works Progress Administration (WPA), the Civil Works Administration (CWA), the Farm Security Administration (FSA), the National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933 (NIRA) and the Social Security Administration (SSA). The New Deal programs were known as the three “Rs”; Roosevelt believed that together Relief, Reform, and Recovery could bring economic stability to the nation. Reform programs focused specifically on methods for ensuring that depressions like that in the 1930s would never affect the American public again.

Oh my god FDR was a monster… “But what about the Rich People?”

The New Deal, a reference taken from a campaign speech in which he promised a “new deal for the American people.” The New Deal focused on three general goals: relief for the needy, economic recovery, and financial reform.

What a bastard he was for looking out for the little guy.

Now let’s look at the other President that MTG refences and the unspeakable harm he did to the United States.

Johnson was John F Kennedy’s VP and ascended to the Presidency after JFK’s assassination and then was elected to the office in 1964.

The term was first referenced during a 1964 speech by Johnson at Ohio University, then later formally presented at the University of Michigan, and came to represent his domestic agenda. The main goal was the total elimination of poverty and racial injustice in the United States.

After JFK’s assassination he placed greatest importance on Kennedy’s civil rights bill, which became the focus of his efforts during the first months of his presidency. “No memorial oration or eulogy could more eloquently honor President Kennedy’s memory,” he said, “than the earliest possible passage of the civil rights bill.” In February 1964, after a series of amendments by civil rights supporters, the House passed a much stronger bill than the one that Kennedy had proposed, and the measure was finally passed by the Senate in June, after an 83-day filibuster by Southern opponents.

The Civil Rights Act, which Johnson signed into law on July 2, 1964, was the most comprehensive and far-reaching legislation of its kind in American history. Among its provisions were a prohibition of racial segregation and discrimination in places of public accommodation, a prohibition of discrimination by race or sex in employment and union membership, and new guarantees of equal voting rights. The law also authorized the Department of Justice to bring suit against local school boards to end allegedly discriminatory practices, thereby speeding up school desegregation. The constitutionality of the law was immediately challenged but was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1964.

LBJ outlined his domestic agenda in a commencement address at the University of Michigan in May 1964: “In your time we have the opportunity to move not only toward the rich society and the powerful society, but upward to the Great Society. The Great Society rests on abundance and liberty for all. It demands an end to poverty and injustice, to which we are totally committed in our time.” The Great Society program, beginning with the Civil Rights Act and continuing with other important measures passed during Johnson’s second term, was the most impressive body of social legislation since the New Deal of the 1930s. It encompassed measures designed to fight the “war on poverty,” including legislation establishing the Job Corps for the unemployed and the Head Start program for preschool children; new civil rights legislation, such as the Voting Rights Act (1965), which outlawed the literacy tests and other devices used to prevent African Americans from voting; and Medicare and Medicaid, which provided health benefits for the elderly and the poor, respectively. Other legislation addressed problems in education, housing and urban development, transportation, environmental conservation, and immigration. Johnson saw these measures as building on and completing the New Deal vision of Franklin D. Roosevelt; with their adoption the United States joined the ranks of the welfare states of western Europe and Scandinavia. However, the effect of these undertakings was soon vitiated by increasing American military involvement in the war in Vietnam, which had begun during the Eisenhower administration and was accelerated by President Kennedy.

Man, what a unamerican slime ball this guy was… upholding civil rights for African Americans and providing healthcare the poor and elderly…

Now of the senior citizen that currently resides in the White House.

Here are 23 of Joe Biden’s greatest accomplishments as president of the United States.

    1. Passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package to increase investment in the national network of bridges and roads, airports, public transport and national broadband internet, as well as waterways and energy systems.

    2. Helped get more than 500 million life-saving COVID-19 vaccinations in the arms of Americans through the American Rescue Plan.

    3. Stopped a 30-year streak of federal inaction on gun violence by signing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that created enhanced background checks, closed the “boyfriend” loophole and provided funds for youth mental health.

    4. Made a $369 billion investment in climate change, the largest in American history, through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

    5. Ended the longest war in American history by pulling the troops out of Afghanistan.

    6. Provided $10,000 to $20,000 in college debt relief to Americans with loans who make under $125,000 a year.

    7. Cut child poverty in half through the American Rescue Plan.

    8. Capped prescription drug prices at $2,000 per year for seniors on Medicare through the Inflation Reduction Act.

    9. Passed the COVID-19 relief deal that provided payments of up to $1,400 to many struggling U.S. citizens while supporting renters and increasing unemployment benefits.

    10. Achieved historically low unemployment rates after the pandemic caused them to skyrocket.

    11. Imposed a 15% minimum corporate tax on some of the largest corporations in the country, ensuring that they pay their fair share, as part of the historic Inflation Reduction Act.

    12. Recommitted America to the global fight against climate change by rejoining the Paris Agreement.

    13. Strengthened the NATO alliance in support of Ukraine after the Russian invasion by endorsing the inclusion of world military powers Sweden and Finland.

    14. Authorized the assassination of the Al Qaeda terrorist Ayman al-Zawahiri, who became head of the organization after the death of Osama bin Laden.

    15. Gave Medicare the power to negotiate prescription drug prices through the Inflation Reduction Act while also reducing government health spending.

    16. Held Vladimir Putin accountable for his invasion of Ukraine by imposing stiff economic sanctions.

    17. Boosted the budget of the Internal Revenue Service by nearly $80 billion to reduce tax evasion and increase revenue.

    18. Created more jobs in one year (6.6 million) than any other president in U.S. history.

    19. Reduced healthcare premiums under the Affordable Care Act by $800 a year as part of the American Rescue Plan.

    20. Signed the PACT Act to address service members’ exposure to burn pits and other toxins.

    21. Signed the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen American manufacturing and innovation.

    22. Reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act through 2027.

    23. Halted all federal executions after the previous administration reinstated them after a 17-year freeze.

Wow that’s terrible how dare he keep his promises to help the middle- and lower-income people in this nation.

So, keep it up GOP and MTG keep comparing Bidens Presidency and programs that are some of the most beloved policies ever enacted in the United States… I am quite sure that if your messiah Donny Dumb Ass ever gets back into Power and the GOP tries to strip all the benefits FDR, LBJ, JRB have given to the American Public you will be richly rewarded just like Marie Antoinette.

Thanks for suffering through a long rant today…and if you don’t know what Marie Antoinette’s reward was, look it up.

  • Election Workers

    Lyle Northey (Silent/Boomer)

The people that work to count the votes need to be able to come to work and not be harassed by anyone for any reason concerning elections. They go through a screening process that verifies they will be true and honest in their completion of the task assigned.

To have someone harass them because they want a certain candidate to win makes no sense. How would these people put enough fraudulent votes in the system to cause a certain outcome to win seems rather farfetched. That kind of interference should be treated as a felony with more than just jail time and a fine being part of the punishment. Take away that person’s ability to vote and drive as well. If a number of threats are received from a known support group, then have the candidate they support removed from that ballot. That would definitely cut down on the chaff as the polls.

That action would be used to hurt other candidates as some of the less honest would figure a way to have an opponent taken off the ballot through cheating. I don’t believe that all the rats in the pack could hide their true loyalties so it would have to be done very judiciously.

It truly seems that intimidation is the answer to all situations. Want a trial to go a certain way, attack the jury members, want a bill to be passed or killed, attack those that have a vote, and if you want an election to go a certain way you fall back on the one tactic you know will work, intimidation of all that vote. This is especially true if those voters have to go to a polling site and cannot just fill out the ballot and drop it in the mail or voter box.

We can make all these rules about no food, drink, talking or whatever in the line and make it as uncomfortable as possible. Have the force patrol the voting site to make sure people are either obeying or being removed for violations to all the rules. Makes it very unattractive to vote and that is what we want, the few to stay the course the more likely the outcome for our candidate.

The loser part of elections is that when the votes are counted and you win you get to celebrate and if you lose you get to concede, in private you get to pout. Being polite during the entire process makes for a much more civilized appearance to everyone, it may not get as much attention in the press as the finger pointing, name calling and back biting that has been present of late.

The other part of the picture is that if your mouth overrides your brain someone may take you to court to make you prove the slander of eat crow. Not nearly often enough have we had a rubbish politician taken to court and then announced to the world that not only was this person wrong but he is also a liar and not fit to run for office again.
